Dr Jacqueline Riding is a historian and art historian specialising in eighteenth- and early nineteenth century British History and Art. She is a consultant for museums, galleries, historic buildings and film. She was the adviser on Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner (2014) and Peterloo (2018). Her books include Jacobites: A New History of the ’45 Rebellion (Bloomsbury 2016, paperback 2017), Basic Instincts: Love, Passion and Violence in the Art of Joseph Highmore (Paul Holberton Publishing 2017) and Peterloo: The Story of the Manchester Massacre (Head of Zeus 2018, paperback 2019). Her biography of the artist William Hogarth, Hogarth: Life in Progress (Profile Books) will be published on 29 April 2021.
