Hello everyone!
I am a writer of Victorian history, which I have always loved, and the favourite part of my degree – a BA (Hons) in Technical Theatre Arts – was researching the historical contexts of the plays I was working on. By majoring in set and costume design, I was able to indulge my passion for social history whilst creating beautiful backdrops and gorgeous costumes to reflect the settings and the characters.
After qualifying as a further education lecturer, I took up the post of programme leader for the BTEC courses in drama, dance and technical theatre at my local college. Here, I taught my students the background to theatre and performing arts in context modules as well as stage management, set and costume design and construction. Cue more social history research and the opportunity to instil this love in my students.
In 2018, I started writing my blog www.backinthedayof.co.uk, which is full of free articles on the Victorian era but influenced by subjects covered in 19th century literature. Please take a look and sign up to my newsletter if you like! When I am not trying to build a blog, I like to visit historical places, read historical romance and try out Victorian baking recipes. If it is a nice day, you can find me outside pretending to create a Victorian cottage garden.
