Dr Elizabeth Norton is a British historian specialising in queenship and the Tudor period. Her most recent book is the critically acclaimed Women Who Ruled the World: 5000 Years of Female Monarchy (Footnote, 2025), while she is also the author of The Lives of Tudor Women (Head of Zeus, 2016) and The Temptation of Elizabeth Tudor (Head of Zeus, 2015), as well as biographies of four of Henry VIII’s wives and England’s Queens: The Biography (Amberley, 2010). She also publishes academically, including the forthcoming Jane Seymour: Patronage, Material Culture and Image Crafting (Routledge, 2026). She regularly appears as an expert contributor or presenter on television, including BBC2’s The Boleyns, A Scandalous Family (on which she also acted as historical consultant), BBC1’s Who Do You Think You Are?, Channel 4’s Digging Up Britain’s Past and Channel 5’s Queen Victoria in Her Own Words. She acts as a consultant for film and television, including Firebrand (2023) and series currently in production for BBC1 and ITV.
