“The Ratcatcher of Berlin”

“The Ratcatcher of Berlin”

“The Ratcatcher of Berlin”

02/04/2026 by James Stejskal

A prequel in my historical fiction series “The Snake Eater Chronicles,” this book tells a tale of spies and special forces soldiers in Cold War Berlin around 1957-1960. It is a story based in fact, what is described “happened.” Many of the “facts” are true.

There is a fine line between truth and fiction. As Albert Camus put it: “Fiction is the lie through which we tell the truth.”

This is how it goes:

Berlin 1957. In a Cold War city awash in intrigue, tension builds between the Soviet and the Allied occupation forces. Amid this conflict, two Americans, a CIA officer and a Special Forces soldier, make an uneasy pact to find a traitor and a killer, a pact that requires them to play a deadly game in the grim shadows of communist East Berlin.
