This book was the result of a 20 year search for information into this elusive man. Born in South Africa to Irish parents, John Sherwood Kelly had a troubled childhood before fighting aged 17 in the Boar War and discovering his love of conflict. By 1915 he would be commanding the 1st Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderer’s in Gallipoli and be awarded both the Military Cross and the CMG. By 1916 he was married to a millionairess and by 1917 he had won the Victoria Cross at Cambrai.

However it was his clash with Winston Churchill that saw his name airbrushed from history in ignominy as he tried to reveal Churchill’s hidden war plans to defeat the Communist Revolution and kill Lenin. After a national scandal, Kelly was a victim of the British establishment and would end up  having many post-war adventures, a love affair, child, become a friend to King George V and die penniless in 1931. This is a rock and roll hero lost from history.
