In Renaissance Prague, where magic is brewed in dark laboratories and where astrologers discern the future in the stars, two women’s paths are fated to collide.

Anna and Kateřina come from very different worlds but they share a burning ambition and a talent for the occult. When both are invited to work under the acclaimed alchemist, John Harkett, who has promised the Holy Roman Emperor that he can produce the elusive Philosopher’s Stone, they find themselves plunged into a male world of science, magic and bitter competition.

Whilst their new master struggles under increasing pressure from the famously mercurial Emperor, Kateřina and Anna make a discovery that could change their fortunes forever.

But amidst the fever of rivalry and betrayal, will these two women raise the other to greatness, or prove the architect of their own downfall?
