Hermann Balck: Hitler’s Forgotten General

Hermann Balck: Hitler’s Forgotten General

Hermann Balck: Hitler’s Forgotten General

05/08/2026 by Philip Kay-Bujak

Hermann Balck was a career soldier who came into a combat role in World War Two comparatively late when compared to the well-known figures of the German Wehrmacht. However, this did not prevent him from being awarded the highest honours that the Third Reich could bestow including the Knights Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds – one of only 27 such awards by the Nazi state. Despite this, Hermann Balck has been forgotten amongst the pantheon off German Generals and this book sets out to question why.
