Melanie Clegg is the author of four historical biographies, all published by Pen and Sword Books. Her first book Scourge of Henry VIII: The Life of Marie de Guise deals with the tumultuous life of Mary Queen of Scots’ formidable mother, while her second focuses on the brief but eventful life of Henrietta Anne of England, sister of Charles II and sister-in-law of Louis XIV. For her third book, Melanie returned to the sixteenth century with a biography of Margaret Tudor, sister of Henry VIII. Melanie’s fourth book, a study of the close and fascinating relationship between Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia and her grandmother Queen Victoria was published in June 2020.
Melanie is currently working on a biography of Madame Élisabeth, youngest sister of Louis XVI, and a book about women guillotined during the French Revolution. She is then contracted to write books about Louis Antoine de Saint-Just, the daughters of Louis XIV, Henrietta Maria, Marie Antoinette and James IV of Scotland.
Born and bred in the Scottish Highlands, Melanie is a graduate of the University of Nottingham and currently lives in Bristol with her family.
