Liz Hyder is a writer and creative workshop leader based in South Shropshire. Bearmouth, her debut novel for young adults, was published by Pushkin Press in the UK, by Norton Young Readers in the USA, and translated into French, Norwegian, Czech and Italian. It won the Waterstones Children’s Book Award for Older Readers, The Branford Boase Award and was named Children’s Book of the Year by The Times.
Liz’s debut book for adults, The Gifts, a historical adventure set in London and Shropshire in 1840, is published by Manilla Press in February 2022 with a second Victorian-set novel to come in 2023.
A past member of the National Youth Theatre, Liz has a BA in Drama from the University of Bristol and is on the board of Wales Arts Review. She has worked in PR, festivals and events in the arts for over two decades including theatre, publishing, at the BBC and Hay Festival. Originally from London, she has now lived in South Shropshire for over a decade.
