Joanne Vigor-Mungovin

Joanne Vigor-Mungovin

6th March 2019 by Joanne.Vigor-Mungovin

Joanne Mungovin’s  interest in Leicestershire history saw her spend over twenty years researching her family tree, in the process discovering that she is related through her maternal line to great grandfathers who were Freemen of the Town of Leicester, and through her paternal line to Tom Norman, the showman who exhibited Joseph Merrick, this led to in-depth research into the Merrick and Potterton families, and life in Leicester at the time Joseph was growing up.

For the past three years Joanne has worked as a Verger at Leicester Cathedral and appeared on local East Midlands television, radio and newspapers supporting the re-internment of King Richard III in Leicester. During the week of Richard III’s reburial Joanne worked as part of the floral team responsible for the displays inside and outside the Cathedral assisting Royal florist Rosemary Hughes.

As well as local radio interviews and newspaper articles relating to her research on Joseph Merrick and Leicester, in April 2018 Joanne worked alongside and appeared with Michael Portillo in his new documentary series ‘Hidden History of Britain’ aired on Channel 5.

I am currently working on my second book.
