JAQUELINE MITCHELL is an experienced writer/compiler, publisher and editor, with a particular expertise in British social and cultural history. She began her career with Macmillan and then Haymarket Publishing, producing, writing and editing for trade magazines, before moving into book publishing.
After over twenty years working as a book editor for Macdonald, David & Charles, and Sutton Publishing, in 2007 she went freelance, since when she has built up a successful business, working for a variety of independent publishers. She has worked on history books for some of the country’s leading history publishers including Portobello, Osprey, Carlton, Constable & Robinson, Macmillan and Haus Publishing.
She has compiled three Britannica Guides for Constable & Robinson,written Blitz Spirit and The Austerity Book for Osprey and The University of Surrey: A History of Shaping the Future for Strathmore Publishing.
As an editor, as well as commissioning, she has done copyediting and proofreading, fact-checking and source checking, picture research, and ad hoc historical research, as well as working extensively with authors in shaping their books.
