During the first world war, more than 3,000 civilians were imprisoned at Alexandra Palace in north London. Many of these prisoners had English wives and children and owned business in Britain. Only their passports made them ‘enemy aliens.’ In their own words, in paintings, photographs and poems, this is their story.
